Activity Based Costing (ABC method)
The ABC method consists in decomposing a process into financially valuable elementary activities to determine the actual cost, or to undertake a reengineering of that process by using a law of Pareto for instance.

AMOE
Assistance to project management (AMOE) has the aim to achieve, technically speaking, all or part of the requirements specification (or expressed needs) such as validating elements by the MOA, under the responsibility of a project manager. Example of tasks delegated to the AMOE: writing the requirements specification, UML modeling, design of a data model, programming, Alpha testing.

Anchors
“The anchorage” refers to the process of association between an inner response to an external or internal trigger, so that the response can be quickly and sometimes discreetly found. The word assertiveness comes from the English noun formed from the verb “to assert” assert, assertion assertive, defend one’s rights, defend one’s opinion. Assertiveness can be translated into French by affirmation de soi.

AssessFirst
Assessment tools and recruitment tests to secure the recruitment process. They are complementary tools to the motivation interview, they able to deepen the exchange and to get to know the candidate better.

Business Analysis
Assistance in project managing (Business Analysis) is to help the project management (HRM, payroll manager, training manager, etc.) through the implementation of projects by the company’s internal IT and / or an integrator (definition in a French context). Example of tasks delegated to the Business Analyst : definition of functional specifications (or expressed purposes) with business, management of a portion of a project users side or Beta or Gamma driving tests.

Congruence
Congruence is to show a consistent alignment between what we feel and the actions we do, the ideas we have and the words we speak. To make it simple, it is to say what we do and do what we say.

DB2
One of the database management systems owned by IBM.

Deliverables
Equivalent Francophone term “livrable”. In project management, it describes the concrete expectations of the project owner (MOA) opposite the prime contractor (MOE). It also qualifies the steps and the documents produced by the Project Management Office (PMO) as part of the project management.

Due Diligence accompaniment
HR due diligence objective is to obtain and analyze information so :

  • To feed the negotiation with elements about the social component (risks, restructuring costs, skills ...)
  • To assess possible synergies in terms of numbers
  • To analyze the similarities and cultural differences to help make decisions concerning the process of change
  • To analyze the gaps between policy and HR practices of both companies to fuel the preparation of integration.

Efficiency
Efficiency consists in tool optimization and is used to get a result.
It is measured as a ratio between the results obtained and the resources used. It must be distinguished from effectiveness, which is the ratio between results and objectives, and profitability, which is the ratio between the income earned and the capital invested.
The difference between efficiency and effectiveness is primarily a context: the effectiveness of a product or of a treatment is based on a clinical research context and reflects an internal validity, while efficiency refers to the ability to generalize the treatment to a general population.

Engineering
Action that defines and sequences the necessary tasks for the implementation of a new product or of a new service.

E2E tests
Literally “End to End” tests or Gamma tests. They are to submit a new program or a new channel program to tests using real data in an environment equivalent to the actual production conditions.

Front to Back (office)
Front Office (literally “shop”) and Back Office (“back room”) are the terms generally used to describe the parts of the company (or its information system) respectively dedicated to the direct relationship with the customer and to the management of the company.

Interculturalism
Interculturalism occurs when two or more cultures interact horizontally and synergistically. In other words, no group can be above the other, thus promoting integration and usability of people.
Intercultural relations of this nature require the respect of diversity; even if conflicts are unpredictable and unavoidable, they can be solved by means of respect, dialogue and consultation.
While Interculturalism is a concept recently developed, a lot of experts in communication, anthropology, sociology and marketing have worked in this direction. The concept differs from multiculturalism and pluralism due to its direct intention of promoting dialogue and relations between different cultures.

MBTI© Myers Briggs Type Indicator
The MBTI helps identify personal preferences, that is to say one’s “natural” or spontaneous tendencies in terms of reaction to a situation, in an unstressed environment. This tool has the advantage of identifying, in each personality, strengths and development axis in a non-stigmatizing approach.
The MBTI distinguishes four dimensions, each with two opposite polarities :

  • The relationship with others and with the environment : Extraversion / Introversion
  • Perception and information collection : Sensation / Intuition
  • The mode of decision making : Thinking / Feeling
  • The organizational style : Judging / Perception

Mergers - Acquisitions
The term mergers and acquisitions (sometimes referred to as “FUSAC” or M & A Mergers and Acquisitions) covers various aspects of the takeover of a company by another company within the business’ corporate finance areas, of strategy and management of financial operations. The acquired company can maintain its integrity, or be fused with the acquiring company. By extension, the definition also includes divestments operations (often called in their other English terms demerger, spin-off, carve out ...). Mergers and acquisitions which are done internationally are grouped under the acronym FAT (cross-border M).

MOA Business Analyst
He or she is the carrier entity need, which defines the objective of the project, its timetable and the budget. The expected result of the project is the realization of a product, called work.
The project owner controls the basic project idea and represents, as such, the end-users to whom the work is intended to.
As part of a project, he or she represents business, and is responsible for the writing of the functional specifications (or expressed needs) to be submitted to the project owner for implementation, but also to the project manager as the Beta tests and Gamma.

MOE Project Owner
The term project owner refers to the part relating to work contracts, a natural or legal person who, for his or her competence, can be given the work by the contracting authority :

  • To assist in the consulting company step and in the conclusion of the contract(s) with the contractor(s).
  • To direct the execution of the work contract(s).
  • To assist the project manager in the reception of the work and in the settlement of the accounts with the contractors. It is most often used in conjunction with the term client which means the owner of the facility or sponsor of the work (State, local authorities, public corporations, private client), and performs procurement. Initially used in the field of building and public works, the diptych client / project manager is widely used in the field of IT, both in the public procurement and in the private sector.

In the case of a project, it is the responsible function of its technical implementation, based on the functional specifications received from the MOA.

NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)
This is a set of communication and self-transformation skills that is interested in our reactions rather than in the origins of our behavior. It focuses on how to reason, and offers an observation grid to improve the perception we have of ourselves and of others. It also helps to set goals and achieve them. It’s a toolbox, which key lies in the use of language, of the five senses and of the body. Its goal : to enable to program and reproduce one’s own success stories.

ORACLE
Database tool and software packages.

Project management
Project management is an approach to structure, optimize and ensure the smooth running of a complex project. Project management has undergone numerous standardization efforts (PMBOK and Prince2 to name only the most known).

Personality Inventory
Set of elements grouped in ladders to assess an individual’s personality traits.

Pareto (law of Pareto)
The Pareto analyzes the relationship between the frequency of an observation and the monetary cost or consumption in a given resource. Empirically, 20% of the observations correspond to 80% of the total cost or total available resources. In other words, as part of a reengineering, using a Pareto helps determine the efforts that are needed.

PERT
The PERT graphic (acronym for Project Evaluation and Technical Review) enables to visualize the dependence of the tasks defined in the framework of a project and to proceed with their scheduling. For each task is set a start date, an end date at the earliest and an end date at the latest. The purpose of this tool is to define the best possible organization for a project to be completed as soon as possible, and identify critical tasks, that is to say, the tasks that must not suffer from any delay, risking to delay the entire project.

PMBOK
PMBOK stands for Project Management Body of Knowledge. This is in fact one of the main (with Prince2) standardization project management attempts. The PMBOK is owned by the Project Management Institute.

PMP Project Management Professional
Project Management (English terminology)
A project management certification, ran by the Project Management Institute.

Prince2
Prince2 stands for Project IN Changing Environments. This is in fact one of the main (with PMBOK) standards of project management attempts.

PROCESS COM management
Is a tool for understanding the different parts of personality, present in varying degrees in a person? The Process Communication provides a fast readable characteristics card key for all types of personalities : one’s strengths, motivations, communication modes that suit or not, the environments in which one will be comfortable or not, the types of personalities with which one will interact easily or with difficulty, the triggering mechanisms of negative stress, and finally the individual strategies used to avoid situations of “miscommunication” and to restore the intellectual and emotional availability compromised by the negative stress. It gives keys to develop appropriate communication strategies, build on short term as well as on long term, constructive and effective relationships.

Program
A whole of heterogeneous projects which all contribute to the achievement of a common goal (eg : the creation of a new factory can be divided into several projects such as the construction of the buildings, the recruitment of workers, the acquisition of machine tools, the introduction to an inventory management, etc.).

Reengineering
Action to reorganize a series of tasks necessary for the production of a product or an existing service, to reduce the cost or duration.

SAP
A business management software package that belongs to the family of the ERP.
ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning.
The terms most commonly used in French to translate the software package are Progiciel de Gestion Intégré (PGI) [Integrated Management or Integrated System of Business Management (GIS)].
SAP is a system in which the different business functions (accounting, finance, production, supply, marketing, human resources, quality, maintenance, etc.) are interconnected through the use of a centralized information system based on a client / server configuration.
One reason for the success of this package is that it is possible to configure each component to suit the specific needs of a business.

Skills assessment
The skills assessment ables an employee to evaluate his or her skills, abilities and motivations and define a professional project or training. The skills assessment may be decided by the employer or can be put in place at the employee’s initiative, in the context of a specific leave.

Storytelling
Literally “art of telling stories,” also translated in French by storytelling. It is to communicate through a story or multiple emblematic stories of the brand, to capture the attention of the consumer and create an emotional connection with the brand.

Transactional Analysis (TA)
Every day we have to play multiple roles. Depending on the situation and the people we met, our attitudes vary, more or less consciously. This is how we express our personality. According to the theory of transactional analysis, we can find ourselves, in turns, in the “Parent”, the “Adult” or the “Child” role and in the logic of each of these roles, we place ourselves in a relationship of domination, exchange or submission. We freely express our emotions or otherwise retain them. Life can thus be compared to a theater in which we wear different masks depending on the circumstances, but always following an established script. Understanding these communication games (these “Transactions”) and decrypting them, analyzing our behaviors, our words, our emotions : this may prevent us from becoming prisoner of a type of reaction, and of always playing the same scene and the same role in a film that does not necessarily correspond to our deepest reality. Knowing more about ourselves, how others perceive us, can distract us from the traps that we fall in, stop us from reproducing too often the same mistakes, and from reliving the same scenarios in our relationships with others, in a loving relationship, in family, or in our professional context…

UAT
Acronym for User Acceptance Tests or Beta tests. They are to provide end-users with the access to an application in order to perform tests with production data. Links with the upstream and downstream applications are simulated.

Value analysis
Method to maximize the use value of a product or of a service, while reducing the cost of the functions not required by customers.
